Any high school senior who is a Girl Scout of Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina (GSESC) is eligible to apply for up to three scholarships that are offered by our council. To apply, submit one complete GSESC Scholarship Application (available annually in December) along with one essay, a copy of an acceptance letter from a college, and three references to be considered for one, two or all three scholarships. The Grace Grady Scholarship - one $1,000 award for a Girl Scouts with expressed financial need. In addition to the GSESC Scholarship Application, it is also necessary to complete and submit the Grace Grady Financial Need Statement.
The Lucille C. McCown Scholarship - one $1,000 award for a Girl Scout with at least five years of Girl Scout experience and who has either earned either the Girl Scout Gold Award or the Girl Scout Silver Award, and maintained a 3.0 GPA through high school. A high school transcript must be submitted with the GSESC Scholarship Application for this award.The Mary Dean Brewer Gold Award Scholarship- one $1,000 award, renewable annually for up to three years (up to $4,000 total), for a Girl Scout who has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, and maintained a 3.5 GPA through high school. A high school transcript must be submitted with the GSESC Scholarship Application for this scholarship.
Colleges and universities recognize the merits of the Girl Scout experience by making scholarships and grants available to Girl Scouts and recipients of the Girl Scout Gold Award.
Girls seeking scholarships should contact their high school guidance counselor or the financial-aid office at the school they wish to attend for information on any scholarships that might be available to Girl Scouts. More information about scholarship opportunities can be found here.
